The Fountain of Youth

As many of you know, the movie Transformers was released last week to record-breaking numbers at the box office. I'm so happy that my childhood was kept in tact and apparently I'm not the only one who feels this way.

I've been looking forward to this movie for 3 or 4 years when I first heard about the idea. There was a rumor of a script and then rumor of a studio picking it up, then there was a confirmation and then a delay from a 2006 release to 2007.

It was worth the wait. When I finally saw the movie, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It really made me feel like a kid again. I'm a grown man and I had the same feeling I had when I saw the the animated movie 20 years ago. The feeling was even greater this time because it looked so real.

Now, I'm in the theater and people are clapping and yelling throughout the entire thing. When Optimus Prime and Megatron was about to go at, you would've thought you were at a boxing match with all the cheering. This wasn't in a theater filled with some geek ass dudes. These were regular folks. Black folks. Dudes who only watch movies on bootleg. They had to go to the theater to see this one. In a lot of cases, they're going again.

I was at the Goodman League on Friday (Goodman League takes place in Barry Farms-yeah, THAT Barry Farms) and there were multiple conversations going on while NBA players were on the court. My 31-year-old sister called me excited.

Only thing left to do now is to thank Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg and speculate about the sequel.

Devastator, the REAL Devastator
