Wag the Dog?

So Vice President Dick Cheney is shooting folks in the face now? "We don't believe you. You need more people." Call me a little skeptical but I don't buy this one. Now, this is definitely a conspiracty theory blog so I may get some angry comments, but I don't care. I really don't think this happened.

Last week, before this news came out people were talking about domestic wire tapping, Karl Rove and everybody's favorite Scooter, Mr. Libby. This week we could care less about all that because the VP shot a man.

The White House is running out of excuses for everything that they've done and know the only thing you can do to take the heat off is to get folks talking about something else. A classic media ploy.

Uh oh. Mike Brown is in front of Congress singing like a canary (which was classic). Better give the "victim" a heart attack.

"Heart attack...that's serious. This guy might die. Do you think they'll charge Cheney if the guy dies?"

That should buy them another week.

What's even funnier is they're saying it's the "victim's" fault that he got shot. He apparently didn't announce himself. Unless homeboy said "shoot me" than it CAN'T be his fault.

On to some other things.

JJ Redick broke the all-time 3-pointers made record last night. The guy who held it before him, Curtis Staples, also played in the ACC at Virginia. That's not the amazing thing. The amazing thing is that they're BOTH from Roanoke, VA. That's a huge coincidence for them both to come from Roanoke.

It's 2006 and Maryland STILL can't beat Clemson. Are you serious? It's Clemson.

Figure Skating is NOT...NOT a sport. One of the commentators on NBC's coverage of the Olympics described a move as "delightful." What other sport would the adjective "delightful" be used to describe something. The day I hear John Madden say "That run by LaDainian Tomlinson was delightful" is the day I stop watching football...FOR REAL.

BRACKETOLOGY: Bustin' Loose

This weekend brings us the annual 'Bracket Buster' matchups. These are the games that pit Mid-Major schools against each other in hopes of improving their NCAA tournament resumes. Now, the problem with it is that they have 100 teams, about 70 too many and they picked which teams would be home and away before the season started. They should block off a group of teams before the season and then decide which ones should play and where they should play in mid-January. Despite all that, there are a couple of pretty good matchups.

Bucknell @ Northern Iowa
George Mason @ Wichita St (This is my favorite)

While were on the topic of Mid-Majors. I've had my eye on Northwestern St out of the Southland Conference all year. They've beaten teams from the SEC, Big 12 and Pac-10. However, they're in a one-bid conference and I fear for them being victim of the upset. This is a team that can do damage in the tournament if they make it. Some poor 3, 4, or 5 seed is gonna be in trouble if they have to play Northwestern St

On to the bracket. Syracuse and Maryland should be on their knees thanking God no one else is playing well right now. They're struggling big time. I'm seeing a lot brackets around that aren't seriously considering Missouri St...I can't see how you can leave them out. Sometimes a team's RPI can misleading. For instance; Kansas, West Virginia and California's RPI's are low in comparison to where I have them seeded while Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Syracuse and Oklahoma's RPI's are probably high for their seeding. Basically there's no exact science to putting a bracket together. Again, the Final Four would be Washington vs Oakland and Minneapolis vs Atlanta. This bracket is good for games through February 12.
